William “Hanson” Medeiros, 68, of Honolulu died Oct. 18 at Tripler Army Medical Center in Honolulu. Born in Hilo, he was a welder for Hilo Sheet Metal, disabled U.S. Army Vietnam War Veteran who earned the Bronze Star and Purple Heart, Hilo High School and Hawaii Community College alumnus, boater and fisherman. Survived by brother, Michael (Hankie) Medeiros of Kawaihae; sisters, Ramona (Bill) Ferreira of Kuna, Idaho, Gayle (Victor) Fergerstrom and Penny (Bert) Miranda of Waimea; nieces and nephews.

Donald Gilbert Nitsche, 86, of Ocean View died Oct. 28 at home. Born in Seattle, he was a U.S. Navy Seabees Korean War veteran and helped the Ocean View community obtain a water well.
